화려하고 현혹적인 국제적 도시의 야경과 빼곡한 유리창에 반사되는 한낮의 풍경들,
흡사한 도시를 구성하고 있는 사람들 각자의 야심과 욕망의 반짝임 같다.
마치 도심을 가득 메운 야생동물들의 메어리와 같은.
Glamorous and dazzling allure of cosmopolitan nightscape and
handsome daylight reflections resemble the ambitions and
desires of human constituents echoing in the urban wildlife.

도시의 마천루는 그 도시의 성장과 번영을 나타내는 거울이다. 어떤 건물은 기업의 가치와
이미지의 표상이 되고, 그 도시의 정체성을 드러내는 랜드마크가 된다. 그런데 언제부터인가
그 정체성이 모호해지고 있다. 기업은 이제 세계화 되었고, 뉴욕에만 있던 기업을 홍콩과
서울에서도 볼 수 있게 되었다. 전 세계의 도시는 앞 다투어 계속 높은 건물을 짓고 있어
이제는 어느 도시에 가도 비슷비슷한 현기증을 느끼게 된다. 도시는 반복해서 생산되며 팽창되고 있다.
나는 이런 '반복되는 도시' 즉, '프랙탈적으로 자기 유사성을 가지고 반복되는 도시'를 표현하고 싶었다.
Glamorous high-rises in the metropolitan skyline reflect the growth and prosperity of the modern city.
Some represent wealth and success of modern corporations while serving as the city's unique and
distinctive landmarks. Recently however, the face of modern-day metropolitan skuline became
more generalized and less unique with the 'globalization' of corporations throughout the globe
with the same multinational companies reaching from New York to Hong Kong and to Seoul.
Nowadays, any major urban metropolis gives out a similar sense of vertigo with their expansion of high-rises
and skyscapers in a repetitive and proliferating fashion, no matter which major city around the world
we find ourselves in. The repetitive urban scene, reflective of self-similarity represented
in a fractal pattern, is portrayed in these work.
반짝이는 유리거울로 뒤덮인 도시, 시내 한복판에 서면 설레였다.
그런데 어느 순간 그 높이의 거대함과 반복적으로 무수히 많이 들어찬 유리창의 반짝임과
그 화려함은 우리를 압도 시키다가도 이내 우울감과 허무함을 안겨준다.
The city covered in sparkly windows and glamorous glitter gives us the flutter
and thrill at first hand, but the overwhelmingly recurring sparkly and dazzle soon turn into
modern-day melancholy and futility.
